Creating Generations of Peacemakers

Darshan Academy believes in creating generations of peacemakers and strives to prepare its students with ethical values, leadership qualities and skills to become compassionate human beings. In honor of the birth anniversary of Hazur Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj, Darshan Academy celebrated the 27th July paying homage to this great soul; the epitome of love. The morning assembly had a special theme beginning with a welcome Ghazal sung by students of grade VII. Next came a Qawwali followed by a role play on a story written by Hazur. In conclusion, Ms. Aarti Vohra, the program coordinator; Ms. Anjali Keshwani, middle wing coordinator and the school Principal, Mr. A. David, each presented wonderful heart-felt talks. The morning program ended with a beautiful, peaceful sight of the entire school sitting together for meditation. In the afternoon (after school hours) teachers heard Ms. Poonam Ghai (Spiritual Curriculum National Coordinator), facilitate a heart-touching session on the “Power of Prayer.

Eye Check Up Camp

Darshan Academy Jalandhar organised eye check up camp for students and staff. The efficient and specialised doctors of Think Eye Hospital were invited for the check up. The doctors examined the eyes of the students. They also gave students important tips for the care of their eyes. Respected principal Mr. Dinesh Singh along with manager Mr.R.S Gautam thanked the team of doctors for giving their valuable time to the students.

Self Defense Training

Darshan Academy Delhi girls learnt self-defense techniques that they can apply to protect themselves in everyday life. Violence against women is a concern for law enforcement agencies. Delhi Police Parivartan Cell organized an enriching Self-Defense Camp for DA Delhi girls of grades VI to XII in the school premises. It was conducted for 15 days from 23 July to 3 August 2018 under the effective guidance of Ms. Priyanka, instructor of self-defense from Delhi Police. On the final day of training, several other officials from Delhi Police Parivartan Cell were welcomed by DA Delhi principal Mr. A David. ASI, Mr. Kishore guided the students about their safety and explained the importance of downloading the “Himmant Plus” app on their mobile that will enable the police department to trace the person in case of emergency. He even demonstrated the way it works and the message received by the police within seconds. He assured that they are working day and night to provide safety to everyone. Another valuable session was held by facilitators of the NGO- Aashayan Ek Ummeed, Sexual Harassment and Cyber Crime, followed by certifying the students for completing the course. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Head Mistress, Ms. Mamta Sabharwal who emphasized the need to continue self-defense training to empower oneself. In the second phase of the Parivartan Cell program an enriching and informative interaction session was held for the students of grade VI and VII in the school premises. The session for grades VIII to XII will be conducted soon.

Outreach Yoga Program

Darshan Academy, Delhi took the initiative to offer a free Yoga Camp at Ashok Vihar for the benefit of the general public with permission of RWA (part of SEWA program initiated by CBSE to serve communities.) Trained instructors and staff members of the school welcomed attendees on the first day. The trainers guided people from the community through various yoga postures which can help many ailments and help us keep fit. There are many health many benefits of yoga. People in the camp celebrated International Yoga Day on 21st May, 2018 under the guidance of Yoga expert, Mr. Ram Avtar. Those attending the Yoga Camp praised the free program and this first outreach program organised by Darshan Academy Delhi was a great success.

Celebration of Sharing, Peace and Unity

A special week ’Hazur week of Human Unity and Peace’ was celebrated in Darshan Academy Ludhiana from 23 July to 28 July 2018. The whole week was full of various interesting activities like story telling competition, friendship band activity, vegetable garden plantation, visit to slum area with donation of hygiene products, music competition and sharing party. The students of class IX visited a slum area and provided the people living there with sanitary items like sanitizers, soaps, and napkins to help with cleanliness. Students from different houses took part in the Inter House Music competition. Students from a slum area were also invited to partake in the music celebration as guests. A session for teachers on positive attitude and happiness was conducted by Principal Ms. Rajdeep Kaur Aulakh. The celebration was concluded with a sharing party organized by the teachers. Overall the whole week was successfully celebrated with the active participation of the students.
